IF ALL YOU HAD WAS TEN DOLLARS.......
Okay here is the scenario...you are taking care of yourself. You have your own apartment with a stove and refrigerator, you have paid all your bills and have TEN DOLLARS left to buy food for the week. What you do have in the frig is ketchup, mustard and ice cubes. What you have in your cabinet is salt and soy sauce. How would you use the ten dollars to feed yourself for the entire week? (Based on prices for food items in your area)!!!!

Hi Pug1...well, I had to giggle when I read this scenario...
because many years ago I had exactly $7.50 a week to buy groceries for 2...I would take a pencil & paper and add as I shopped so I wouldn't be embarresed at check-out...of course money went a little further then I think! I bought CHEAP weiners, hamburger was 3# for a dollar, fruit cocktail & powdered jello, spagetti &/or noodles, canned tomatoes, potatoes & bread. One time all we had was ketchup & crackers before a payday and we ate it like soup...now this was back in 1962 before I was married to my now husband that I married in 1969. I've never had to skimp since I've been married to him, praise the Lord.. ;-) Bo
Lord, I don't know what I would do. But, I do know I wanted to drop by and meet you and thank you for signing my guestbook, that was sweet of you. I'm going to add you to my blog list if you don't mind. I love meeting new friends.
Hugs,
Chris
noodles or rice
hi Michele, nice to meet you! I love this question especially since the cost of food has skyrocketed! I think I would buy 2 boxes of cereal and a gallon of milk!! LOL! Yes I could live on cereal but my husband won't stand for that! LOL! have a good day! Sue
SImple noodles, tomato juice and a loaf of bread (lol) have lived through days like that many times;) welcome to my blog;) French
You can buy ingredients for a meatless lagsagna for $10 easily. Probably 2. But I like beans and veggies over rice. Maybe both! :)
Hi Pug1...Love the question! That's not easy! Potatoes and eggs are good, cheap staples. So are bananas....hmmm....and pancakes. Maybe banana pancakes! lol Thanks for visiting my blog! Debbie
Now this is an interesting topic, its years since I have been in that situation, but I have been, in those days there were 3 of us and we were building our own house, so needed good food. We ate sausages and potatoes with silver beet from the garden, a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread. After a year of this diet we were much slimmer and could hardly tolerate red meat any more.
Now days I would buy rice and noodles and mince (hamburger meat)and what ever vegetables were cheap on that day.
i'd buy spelt angel hair pasta and chicken to slow cook, and a dozen eggs. this would cover breakfast and dinner.
I'm surprised that no one mentioned beans. They are a wonderful source of vitamins and minerals and add fiber and protien to our diet. I would also get brown rice, potatoes and what other fresh veggie's I could.
I found you at Diane's and your blog name caught my attention.
GOOD QUESTION.IT'S NOT TOO OUT OF SIGHT THESE DAYS.I WOULD BUY 1.POTATOES.2.PASTA.3.ONIONS 4.CANNED TOMATOES.CHICKEN THIGHS OR WHATEVER WAS THE CHEAPEST.AND THAT WOULD PROBABLY BE ALL I COULD BUY.SAD ISN'T IT?AND HOW MANY PEOPLE RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA DO THIS AND LESS EVERYDAY...ANN
